Print media VS broadcast media

In the field of journalism, the traditional media comprises print media and broadcast media

 

What are they? What are the similarities and differences? Let’s see.

 




Print media

The phrase ‘print media’ is self-explanatory. Around 14-15 AD, it came into being. The printed press was invented by Johannes Guten Berg in Germany. Further, between 1605-1620 AD, newspapers originated.

 

Even in this age of globalization, newspapers are the most important medium of spreading news and information. Newspapers are termed as ‘democratizing medium.’ This is because it publishes the issues in an unbiased manner. It does not inculcate prejudice for the formation of one’s understanding

 

 

  1. Broadcast media

Television and radio are the traditional forms of media that fall into the category of broadcast media. It has the capacity of reaching a wider audience.

It is the most powerful version of the media. It is so because television is an audiovisual medium. The viewers can view, read the text, and images at the same time. While the radio has a convincing nature

 

What is the similarities o print and  broadcast media?

 

they are both invented to provide people with information and entertainment. so they are both informing us about daily news. Another similarity is that TV has a lot of channels like newspapers has a lot of different segment, so if people don't want to watch or read a specific part they can ignore it and watch or read something else.

 

Also they areBoth print and television media use the same basic journalistic format to shape their stories. Called the pyramid format, the shape of the story starts with the most pertinent information. ... Print and television media share the least important information of the story toward the end of the story.

What Is the difference?

 

Print news uses inverted pyramid, which puts the most important details at the top and least important details are built from the lead sentence. In broadcast news, dramatic unity is similar to inverted pyramid but it is different. Dramatic unity uses a lead in followed by a climax, cause, and effect. This model is much more simplified than print, facts are written in descending and chronological order.

 

-Long sentences are used in the print media addresses the issue in detail to describe the incidence

Short sentence are used in the broad cast media to as to save time and to keep the news in the precise format

-news is always organized in space.

News is organized in time.

-In print media we usually use past tense

 In the broadcast media we usually use present tense

 

-There is always permanency of the news item that has been published in the paper

 In the broadcast media there is less permanency of the news item released
