“We don’t need socio-cultural press, it’s a luxury!” They say.

We can see the expansion of the press in most political, economic and sports fields in The Arabic world, while the social aspect of the press is limited to a very limited extent in some weekly and monthly magazines, as the social press does not occupy a sufficient space for it in Arab societies, especially in Syria which has been suffering from war for 10 years already. social and cultural press considered one of the most important aspects that must be given enough It has, especially in light of the disintegrating Arab conditions, and since social journalism pertains to society in general from small to large, it was necessary to preserve this type of journalism, which is considered complementary to society and an important intellectual feeding tool for human minds by guiding them to the most important issues in their daily lives and the problems faced by some to find the best kind of way to solve those problems.
But in Syria social press has always been underestimated by the authorities, using excuses like “we have a huge war, we need to talk about politics, army and maybe economics”. The social press has been treated like a luxury and actually now even the people are buying this point of view, cause basically The social press is a link between the society and the government, as it is the voice of the people to the government and at the same time it is the voice of the government to the people (society), but no, this is not happening now.
And of course cultural press is almost marginalized, coz it’s also not (priority) as they say.
We have few independent voices raising up now in Syria, and actually it makes different.. by following them you can see that people actually interacting with them and getting influenced by them. Coz at the end of the day this kind of press is needed especially in a broken country.. people like those need to talk about their daily problems.. when you don’t even have the minimum rights for a decent life and the upper people not listening to you.. here the role of the social journalism gonna take its place. So it can’t be separated from the real life. It’s a need and it’s a must exist.
I agree that in times of war and crisis, the media must provide useful content for their readers and that the sociocultural press is a luxury that society cannot afford. However, as things become more stable in Syria, it's the duty of the authorities, the press and the people to rebuild their nation, and I believe that taking a focus on culture and entertainment can be a source of motivation and unity to help society resurface.
